WALES, Wis. - The Beloit Memorial boys soccer squad came up short 2-0 in a game at ninth-ranked Kettle Moraine Saturday.
The Purple Knights allowed the first goal in the game's fourth minute, as the ball hit off the post, then the Beloit goalkeeper before trickling into the net. Kettle Moraine added the second goal 10 minutes into the second half.
Although the Knights came up short, head coach Brian Denu was pleased with some aspects of his team's play.
"I was really impressed by our three freshman starters today," Denu said. "They certainly didn't shy away from the challenge and looked very comfortable on the field against a much older group. All three logged at least 80 minutes and looked like they could have played longer. We are going to need them to continue to step up with some nagging injuries and illnesses to some of our older players."
The Knights will be back at home Tuesday when they host Janesville Craig in their Big Eight opener.
