BELOIT- The Beloit Snappers simply couldn't overcome a brutal first inning Tuesday night at Pohlman Field.

The Snappers allowed five runs in the first inning and fell 5-3 to the Burlington Bees. The win allowed the Bees to complete a three-game sweep of the Snappers, and represented the fourth straight loss for Beloit.

Starting pitcher Rafael Kelly was nearly unhittable after the rocky start. Kelly walked in a run in the first, then allowed a grand slam to Harrison Wenson to make it 5-0. Because of a Beloit error, none of the five runs were earned.

In the four innings that followed, Kelly allowed just one baserunner and struck out 10 Bees to finish with 11 strikeouts in the five frames, at one point striking out six straight Burlington hitters.

The Snappers got on the board in the sixth on a Lester Madden grounder that plated Devin Foyle.

Madden struck again in the eighth, this time with an RBI double to plate Skyler Weber, and Nick Ward later added an RBI single to chase Madden to make it 5-3.

Chase Cohen was also terrific out of the bullpen for Beloit, throwing four scoreless innings and allowing only two hits while striking out five, giving Beloit 16 strikeouts for the game.

The Snappers will welcome in Kane County for the first of a three-game series Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
