CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Beloit Snappers late-season playoff push has been grounded to a halt in Cedar Rapids.
The Snappers dropped a 4-2 decision to the Kernels Sunday, marking their third consecutive loss after a season-high six wins in a row.
Beloit got off to a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Lester Madden cracked his second home run of the season.
The Kernels tied the game in the third inning with a pair of runs of their own before a pair of solo home runs made the difference.
Gabe Snyder went deep against Joshua Reagan (3-2) in the fifth inning to give the Kernels a 3-2 lead, and Gilberto Celestino hit his ninth homer of the year against Jaimito Lebron in the sixth inning to cap the scoring.
Aiden McIntyre struggled with his command Sunday in a starting role, allowing four walks in just 2 2-3 innings of work. Andrew Cabezas (5-6) got the win with six innings of two-run ball.
The Snappers dropped a tough 5-4 decision Saturday when the Kernels scored four runs in the seventh inning. Max Schuemann, Marcos Brito and Lester Madden each had a pair of hits for Beloit.
The Snappers and Kernels will meet again Monday at 6:35 p.m. in the series finale.
