BELOIT - The beat went on for the Beloit Snappers Thursday night at Pohlman Field.
The Snappers won their sixth straight game, defeating Peoria 6-3 to stay red-hot.
After allowing a run in the top of the first, the Snappers set the tone for the rest of the game by plating four runs in the bottom of the first.
Devin Foyle hit an RBI single and Nick Osborne hit an RBI double to make it 2-0. After an RBI grounder by Skyler Weber, Michael Woodworth hit a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.
The Chiefs bounced back with an unearned run in the second, but Beloit's Max Schuemann hit an RBI single in the fourth, and Weber struck for his second RBI in the fifth on a single, making it 6-2.
The Chiefs would score once more in the ninth, but Beloit easily hung on for the victory.
Reid Birlingmair (5-6) picked up the victory with five innings of five-hit ball. Both of the runs allowed were unearned.
Rafael Kelly earned his first save of the season by coming out of the bullpen and pitching the final four innings and allowing just one run.
With the win, the Snappers crept within five games of a playoff spot with 24 left to play.
Beloit and Peoria will meet in the finale of their three-game series Friday nigh at 6:30 p.m.
