CLINTON, Iowa - The Beloit Snappers continued their strong play of late with a pair of narrow victories at Clinton this past weekend.
The Snappers defeated the LumberKings 7-6 on Saturday before winning 5-4 Sunday.
In Sunday's game, Beloit rallied from a 4-1 deficit to take the win. The Snappers scored a run in the seventh inning on a two-out single by Michael Woodworth to cut the deficit to 4-2 before making their move in the eighth.
Max Schuemann doubled with one out in th einning, and Marcos Brito drove him home with a single to cut the lead to 4-3. After Devin Foyle popped out, Anthony Churlin cracked a two-run homer, his fourth of the season, to give Beloit a 5-4 lead.
Angelio Infante (2-3) threw 3 2-3 innings of scoreless relief after Chase Cohen allowed four runs (all unearned) in 4 1-3 frames. Charlie Cerny notched his seventh save with a scoreless ninth inning despite allowing a hit and two walks.
In Saturday's game, Beloit followed the same script. The Snappers trailed 4-3 heading into the eighth inning before scoring three times to take a 6-4 lead. Woodworth, a recent addition to the team, hit a two-run double, while later in the inning Lester Madden chased him home with a single. Jaimito Lebron (2-1) threw three innings of scoreless relief to earn the win, while Calvin Coker allowed two runs in the ninth but still managed to earn his second save of the season.
The Snappers will play at Clinton again Monday at 6:30 p.m.
