BURLINGTON, iowa - The Beloit Snappers' comeback effort fell short Thursday night in a 5-3 loss to host Burlington.
The Bees scored single runs in the first and fourth innings before breaking the game open with a three-run seventh against Beloit reliever Jaimito Lebron to make it 5-0.
The Snappers, who finished the game with just two hits, came alive with Burlington's assistance in the eighth inning.
Skyler Weber led off the inning with a walk. After the next two hitters struck out, Joseph Pena reached on an error. After a walk to Max Schuemann loaded the bases, Weber came home on a wild pitch.
Payton Squier followed with a two-run single to make it 5-3. A passed ball and another walk put the tying run on base, but Nick Osborne struck out to end the threat.
Angello Infante dropped to 1-2 on the season after allowing two runs on six hits in five innings of work.
Kyle Tyler (6-0) picked up the win after allowing just one hit in five scoreless frames.
The Snappers and Bees will meet in the finale of their three-game series Friday at 6:30 p.m. Beloit will be back at Pohlman Field for the weekend, when they host Quad Cities at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday.
