Legion goes 3-1 in busy weekend

JANESVILLE, Wis. - The Rock County River Monsters had another solid weekend, going 3-1 to improve to 11-2 on the season.

The River Monsters swept Muskego in a doubleheader Friday night at Riverside Park, winning 12-2 and 11-1.

Saturday, the boys were back at Riverside to face a perenially solid Plover team in another doubleheader.

Rock County won game one 3-2 before being blown out for the first time this season, losing the nightcap 12-3.

Against Muskego, the River Monsters scored nine runs in the bottom of the first en route to a five-inning win in the nightcap.

Brett Kiger worked all five innings and allowed two runs on six hits. He didn't walk a batter while striking out four. Corbin Ovist, Jared Emerson and Jake Raisbeck each had two hits, while Cory Walker added a triple and two RBI's.

In game one, it was a five-run first and a five-run fourth that led to another five-inning win.

Drew Ries went 3-for-3 while Raisbeck and Zack Zahler added a pair of hits.

Jared Emerson went the distance, allowing just three hits while striking out six.

In game one against Plover, the River Monsters headed to the bottom of the seventh tied at 2-2. Raisbeck and Tyler Aasen had back-to-back singles with one out. After Ovist grounded out, Cory Walker hit a walk-off single to end the proceedings.

It was the second big hit of the game for Walker, who cracked a two-run single earlier in the game.

Casey Stone went all seven innings and allowed just one earned run while striking out six to earn the victory.

The River Monsters trailed 5-3 after three innings in the nightcap before Plover took command with two runs in the fourth and four more in the sixth. Emerson had a pair of hits and two RBI's, while Sam Nemetz went 2-for-3.

The River Monsters will be back in action Monday when they host Lake Geneva at Pohlman Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
