JANESVILLE, Wis. - The Rock County River Monsters improved to 8-1 this season with an 11-2 thumping of Whitewater Thursday at Riverside Park.
The River Monsters broke open a scoreless game with six runs in the second inning, then scored at least one run in the remaining four frames to take down Whitewater.
Sam Nemetz went four innings and allowed just one run to get the victory. He didn't walk a batter while striking out five.
Corbin Ovist pitched the final two frames, allowing just one hit while striking out three.
The River Monsters banged out 11 hits, with Ovist, Micah Overley, and Jared Emerson each getting two. Zack Zachler went 1-for-2 with three RBI, while Casey Stone drove in a pair of runs.
It will be a busy weekend for the River Monsters. They host Muskego in a doubleheader Friday evening before hosting Plover in a doubleheader Saturday.
