JANESVILLE, Wis. - The Rock County River Monsters kicked off their season in style with a pair of blowout wins Tuesday night in Riverside Park.
The River Monsters defeated Racine 14-0 in game one and followed that with a 17-1 drubbing in the nightcap.
Drew Ries was the hitting star in game one, going 4-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and two RBI.
Jared Emerson wasn't far behind Ries, going 2-for-2 with a triple and four RBI's.
Rock County scored four runs in the bottom of the first, then plated two more in the second before ending the game early with eight runs in the fourth.
Cody Walker had no trouble with the Racine lineup, allowing just one hit over four scoreless frames. Ries cleaned up with a hitless fifth inning to close things out.
In game two, Racine jumped out to a 1-0 lead before Rock County's bats caught fire. The River Monsters scored four in the first, two in the second, three in the third and put up another eight-spot in the fourth inning.
Sam Nementz went 3-for-4, Corbin Ovist was 2-for-2 with four runs scored and Ries kept his perfect night going with a 2-for-2 performance with three RBI's. Chase Hamilton was 3-for-3 as well.
Casey Stone allowed one run in four innings, while Jack Scharlau struck out the side to end the game after five innings.
The River Monsters will be back in action Thursday when they travel to Whitewater at 6 p.m.
