LAKE GENEVA, Wis. - Four members of the Beloit Memorial boys track team punched their tickets to La Crosse Thursday at the WiAA Division 1 Badger Sectional.
Triple jumper Shelvin Garrett placed third in the meet with a leap of 44-feet, 2 1/4 inches. Garrett will be joined at the state meet by Lucas Laun-Smith, who placed fourth in the 110-hurdles with a personal best of 15.57 seconsd.
The 4x400 team of Tariq Randall, Garrett, TJ Kilgore and Kobe Chandler placed third with a time of 3:26.24 to also advance.
Rogelio Barrales barely missed out on a trip to state, placing fifth in the 3200 with a time of 10:07.
Laun-Smith tied for seventh in the high jump at 5-10. Luis Perez was sixth in the 200 (23.86) and Javier Thomas was eighth in the 300 intermediate hurdles with a PR of 42.39. Milton's Dane Nelson, son of former Turner star Dave Nelson, won the event in 39:32.
The 4x200 relay ran a season-best 1:35.75 and placed eighth. That team consisted of Thomas, Kilgore, Peris Byrd and Perez.
Beloit's boys finished eighth in the meet with 33.5 points. Mukwonago was first with 150.5, followed by Madison La Follette (77) and Sun Prairie (60.5).
On the girls side, Tajah Randall placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a PR of 16.80, while Rebekah De Kok placed fifth in the 400 with a PR time of 1:03.14.
• DIVISION 3 BANGOR SECTIONAL: The Parkview boys 4x100 team of Chase Carratt, Charlie Vogt, James Connell and Brayden Tracy placed second with a time of 44.79 seconds to advance to the Division 3 state meet.
Joining the relay team at state will be wheelchair athlete Isaac Morris, who beat two other competitors in the 100 meters and the shot put, while also placing first in the 800 and 1600 to qualify in all four events.
Sun Prairie won the girls title with 134 points, followed by Stoughton (67) and Janesville Parker (62). Beloit was 15th.
