PEORIA, Ill. - The Beloit Snappers split a doubleheader in Peoria Wednesday and head back to Pohlman FIeld after taking three of five from the Chiefs.

The Snappers won the opener 2-1 before falling 6-0 in the nightcap.

In the first game, Beloit got an outstanding pitching effort from Reid Birlingmair, who went 5 2-3 scoreless frames to improve to 2-0 on the season.

The Snappers scored both of their runs in the fourth inning when Cooper Goldby hit a two-run single to plate Cobie Vance and Devin Foyle, giving the Snappers a 2-0 lead.

The Chiefs scored their only run against Beloit closer Eric Marinez in the seventh inning. Marinez struck out Alexis Wilson with the tying run at first base to secure his sixth save in six opportunities this season.

In game two, the Snappers were shut out on just five hits, with right fielder Devin Boyle collecting two of them.

Peoria put the game out of reach early, scoring five times in the bottom of the second against Beloit starting pitcher Michael Murray, who was making his 2019 debut.

Chiefs starter Alvaro Seijas went all seven innings for the Chiefs to improve to 2-4 on the season.

The Snappers return to Pohlman Field for a 6:30 p.m. contest against Kane County Thursday.
