ROCKTON - The Hononegah baseball team notched its 20th win of the season and improved to 15-1 in NIC-10 play with a 10-1 win over Rockford East Monday.

The Indians broke open a 1-1 game with five runs in the bottom of the second, then added a run in the third and three more in the fourth.

Junior Zach Whalen picked up the win on the mound while Payton Mather, Gabe Roessler and Dylan Sayles all had two hits to pace the Indians offense.

Hononegah will play at Freeport Wednesday afternoon.

• TENNIS: JANESVILLE CRAIG 7, BELOIT MEMORIAL 0: The Purple Knights couldn't break through against a solid Craig team Tuesday in Beloit.

The number three doubles team of Joe Olsen and Gann Ziebell gave the Cougars their best shot, losing 10-3 in a third-set tiebreaker after splitting the first two sets.

• SOFTBALL: PARKVIEW-JOHNSON CREEK DOUBLEHEADER: The Parkview softball team proved itself worthy of its No. 7-ranking in the latest WIAA Division 4 softball poll when it split a doubleheader with third-ranked Johnson Creek Monday.

The Vikings won game one 3-1 before falling 4-0 in eight innings in game two.

In the opener, Parkview pitcher Remington Stark pitched a four-hitter while striking out 16 Jays while also going 2-for-3 with a double at the plate.

In game two, the teams were held scoreless until the Jays broke through for four against Stark in the eighth inning. Stark struck out nine and walked two while allowing nine hits.

The teams, seeded second and third respectively in the WIAA Division 4 state playoff brackets, could potentially meet again in a regional final next week.

• HONONEGAH 7, AUBURN 1: The Hononegah softball team improved to 28-4 overall and a perfect 16-0 in NIC-10 play with a victory over host Auburn Monday.

Cayla Cavanagh went 3-for-4 with three RBI's as the Indians scored sixt of their seven runs in the game's first three innings.

Emma Schroeder picked up the win in the circle.
