KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Beloit College baseball team fell to Simpson College 10-9 at Osceola Heritage Park Thursday in walkoff fashion.
The Buccaneers trailed 8-7 heading to the eighth inning, but Nick Schmidt was hit by a pitch with one out to get them started. Matthew Celentano followed with a single to right field and Jalen Davis was intentionally walked to load the bases. Ethan Conley hit a two-RBI single to left field to give the Bucs a 9-8 lead.
They couldn't hold it. Simpson tallied the equalizer using a single, hit batter and another single to plate the tying run before the Bucs got out of the inning.
Beloit was unable to capitalize on a Storm miscue that opened the top of the ninth. In the bottom of the inning, a one-out single followed by a groundout had a Storm baserunner in scoring position. A single to right field in the next at bat scored the game-winning run.
Davis led the Bucs' offense with a 2-for-3 performance, drawing two walks and adding two runs batted in. Conley went 2-for-4 with four RBI, a walk and a run scored. Bronson Balholm also registered two hits in four plate appearances adding an RBI and drawing one walk.
Keith Haina suffered the loss in 1.2 innings of relief allowing two runs and four hits while striking out two.
