KISSIMMEE, Fla. - After being thumped by Marietta College 16-4 Monday, Beloit College's softball team rebounded in a big way, knocking off Haverford 5-1 at the Fortune Road Complex.
The Buccaneers faced a tall order against Haverford, which was coming off a win over Marietta. Beloit stranded six runners on base through the first three innings and trailed 1-0 heading into the sixth. Alyssa Boltik and Emily Stapay drew walks and moved up on a passed ball. A wild pitch allowed Boltik to score and advanced Stapay. Makayla Zundel followed with a walk to put runners at the corners. An out later, Maddie Christine's double to right center plated two more runs to make it 3-1.
Alyssa Morris made it 4-1 with a single to score Christine. Callie Dutton made it three straight hits, plating Morris for a 5-1 lead.
Haverford threatened with two runners on in the bottom of the sixth, but the Buc defense tightened up and didn't allow a run. Maddy Pfortmiller came in to retire the side in order to close out the game.
Dutton went 3-for-4 in the batter's box to lead Beloit. Christine and Lambert each belted two hits in the game with Christine adding two RBI and a run scored.
Boltik picked up the win in the circle, striking out three in six innings of work.
• In the opener, BC ran into a buzzsaw against Marietta, which is averaging over 13 runs per game.
Beloit tallied nine hits in the game led by two apiece off the bats of Stephannie Lopez, Madi Christine and Ashley Lambert. Lopez added two RBIs. Starter Morris took the loss.
• UP NEXT: the Bucs will face Washington College and Wooster Tuesday afternoon.
• BASEBALL: Beloit's record dipped to 2-2 with a loss to Greenville (Ill.) on Monday in Auburndale, Fla.The Bucs play Gordon College at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
