BC swimmers finish 8th in MWC

GRINNELL, Iowa - The Beloit College men's and women's swimming and diving programs each finished eighth in the Midwest Conference Championships after wrapping up the three-day meet Sunday evening.

Aaron Jolly posted the top individual finish for the Buccaneers Sunday. He registered a time of 2:06.03 to finish ninth in the 200 butterfly. Jolly was also the lead for the Bucs' 400 freestyle relay team that included David Morris, Meshach Roberts and John Rose III. The foursome came into the wall eighth posting a time of 3:25.64.

Roberts added a 12th place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:08.36) while teammate Tenajh Gaitor was 12th with a time of 2:23.70 in the 200 breaststroke.

Anna Bunzel highlighted the Beloit women's program Sunday. Her 2:25.36 in the 200 backstroke was 11th. Teammate Alex Kohn followed with a time of 2:30.70 for 13th in the event.

Padyn O'Keefe added points to the team total with a 13h place time of 2:48.26 in the 200 breaststroke while Eliana Ritt tallied a top 16 finish in the 100 free with a time of 56.71.

Ritt joined Kohn, Makenna Downing and Kaylie Williams in the 400 freestyle relay. The foursome combined for a time of 4:03.95 for eighth.

• In addition to Jolly's highlight Sunday, Wil Kangas-Olson's performance off the one-meter diving board provided the highlight for the team Saturday. Kangas-Olson posted a total of 372.55 to finish as the runnerup in the event.

Beloit's overall championship highlight came on the first day competition as the Buc men broke two program records. Gaitor, Rose, Morris and Stephenson wrote their name in the program record book with a time of 1:29.65 in the 200 freestyle relay, a season best by nearly five seconds. Beloit's combination of Gaitor, Stephenson, Roberts and Jolly shaved nearly 12 seconds off of their season best to set a new program record in the 400 medley relay.
