BELOIT - Beloit Memorial High School basketball fans will remember one of the greatest accomplishments in its athletic history Tuesday night.
The School District of Beloit and BMHS will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of "The Shot Heard 'Round the State."
LaMont Weaver's 55-foot rainbow banked off the glass and through the net to tie Neenah at the end of regulation in the 1969 State Championship game. Two overtimes later, two free throws by Weaver sealed an 80-79 victory for Beloit's sixth title.
Athletic Director Joel Beard said the celebration will be between the jayvee and varsity game Tuesday in the Barkin Arena. It will be at approximately 7 p.m.
"We have a few surprises planned," Beard said. "Several of the 1969 players will be on hand, including LaMont Weaver, Chuck Loft, Dan Wohlfert and Otha Williams."
Beard said there will be a presentation and video of the shot will be shown.
