BELOIT - A year ago, the Junior Fury Rock County co-op hockey team struggled to find numbers.

This season, the 12U Fury are headed to the state tournament.

The top-seeded Junior Fury took on second-seeded DC Diamonds on Sunday in Waunakee with the Region 4 Championship at stake. Midway through the first period, Kamdyn Davis scored on a pass from Hailey Chady. The Diamonds tied it by the end of the period.

Still 1-1 in the third period, Davis scored again and that was enough for the Fury to pull out the win as goaltender Jillian Traver (23 saves) and their defense hung on. With the win came a berth to state, which will be held March 9-10 in Black River Falls.

The Junior Fury, a co-op program between the Beloit Youth Hockey Association and Janesville Youth Hockey, is excited to have the numbers growing. They are projecting three Fury teams next year: U10, U12 and U14.

Any girl interested in trying hockey for free should attend a free hockey day sponsored by USA Hockey on Feb. 23 at the local rinks.
