VERONA, Wis. - Tyler Sireci of Beloit Memorial pinned Brendan Shannon of Sun Prairie in 4 minutes and 34 seconds to capture first place at 195 pounds in the Big Eight Championships at Verona High School on Saturday.
Sireci (28-3) picked up a bye in the first round and then pinned La Follette's Adam Northington in 52 seconds. In the semifinals, Sireci won by decision over Parker's Bryce Heerey, 10-6.
As a team, Beloit finished fifth with 132 points.
The Knights' Dakota Koppin (23-7) pinned Sun Prairie's Quinn Hess in 3:00 in the 145 semifinals, but lost to Janesville Craig's Aiden ROmack by a pin in 1:28 in the finals to finish second.
Beloit picked up thirds from Fernando Badillo (160) and Ryan Caudle (285). After being pinned by Craig's Keeanu Benton in the semifinals, Caudle bounced back and pinned Middleton's Jack Briggs (2:44) in a consolation match before pinning Parker's Nathan White in the third-place match (3:57).
The Knights also got fourth places from Griffin Oberneder (126) and Carlos Lopez (132). Beloit got sevenths from Edwin Mora (120), Marco Olivera (138), Mario Mendoza (170) and Danny Villano (220) as well as an eighth from Alan Lopez (106).
Janesville Craig won the team title with 262 points, followed by Middleton (215), Madison Memorial (146), Janesville Parker (139), Beloit (132), La Follette (122), Sun Prairie (110.5), Madison East (104), Verona (52) and Madison West (37).
