BELOIT - Alyssa Knauf scored four goals to lead the Rock County Fury to a 6-1 non-conference victory over the Viroqua Blackhawks at the Edwards Ice Arena on Saturday.
Knauf opened the scoring late in the first half on assists by Anika Einbeck and Anna Malone. She tallied her second goal with six minutes remaining in the second period on an assist by her sister Haley.
The Fury, who had 44 shots in the game, took control in the third period. Einbeck made it 3-1 on assists by Olivia Combs and Abby Humphrey. Alyssa Knauf earned her hat trick to make it 4-1 and freshman Anna Malone tallied her first varsity goal on a pass from Combs. Knauf finished off the win on an assist by Malone.
Olivia Cronin had 31 saves for the Fury (12-7-2), who earned the second seed in the WIAA regional/sectional seedings. Rock County will take on No. 7 seed Badger Lightning at 7 p.m. Feb. 14 in the regional finals in Beloit.
• BOYS HOCKEY: Beloit Memorial has struggled to a 5-15-0 record this season, so the Purple Knights aren't complaining with a No. 6 seed and a home game in the WIAA playoffs.
The results of the seeding meeting: 1, Waukesha; 2, Marquette; 3, Kettle Moraine; 4, Janesville; 5, Whitefish Bay; 6, Beloit Memorial; 7, Stoughton; 8, Monroe; 9, Greendale; 10, Kenosha.
Beloit will host Kenosha in its postseason opener at 7 p.m. Feb. 12. The Knights are back in action at 7 p.m. Tuesday when they host Sun Prairie at Edwards Ice Arena.
