SOUTH BELOIT - The South Beloit girls basketball team ran into a buzzsaw in the form of an Earlville-Leland team that put up 44 points in the first half on the way to a 65-33 loss Monday night.
Earlville nailed seven 3-pointers in the game and got 21 points from Alex Koontz as they cruised to the victory. South Beloit trailed 44-20 at halftime and scored just four points in the fourth quarter as the Royals put the game away.
Kristina Counts had an outstanding game for the SoBos, scoring 16 points.
• BOYS BASKETBALL: BELLEVILLE 78, PARKVIEW 60: The VIkings were run over by Belleville in the first half, trailing 49-28 and couldn't make a second-half comeback in a non-conference loss Monday night in Orfordville.
Royce Clark led the way for Belleville, scoring 18 of his game-high 28 points in the first half.
Eli Hoscheit led Parkview with 21 points. Justin Balch scored 19 points and Aydon Campbell added 17.
