Shoup's big night can't save Bucs

WHITEWATER, Wis. - Beloit College couldn't hang with 15th-ranked UW-Whitewater on the glass Tuesday night and paid for it with a 92-65 loss.

The Warhawks held a 41-18 advantage in rebounds and outscored the Buccaneers 18-2 on second-chance points.

The teams traded baskets for the first 3 minutes until the Warhawks used an 8-0 run to lead 14-6 with 14 minutes remaining in the half.

The Bucs rallied within 25-22 on Darin Empereur's three-pointer with 7:14 left in the half, but UW-W pushed its lead to 36-29 at the break.

Tristan Shoup's three-pointer brought Beloit within 37-32, but a 9-4 UWW run extended the lead to double digits and it stayed that way.

Beloit shot 50 percent in the first half (13-26) while the Warhawks hit 44 percent (15-34). In the second half, UWW shot 67 percent (18-27) while the Bucs hit 46 (13-28).

Shoup led all scorers with 24 points, going 11-for-15 from the field with four rebounds. Andrew Walters added 14 points and Empereur had six assists.

• UP NEXT: The Bucs (2-3) return to Flood Arena to open MWC action against Cornell Friday at 7:30, followed by a 3 p.m. Saturday tipoff against Monmouth.
