Irene Rose Roethler, 90, of Beloit, WI, died on Thursday, September 5, 2019 in her home with her loving family by her side.
She was born on December 10, 1928 in Festina, IA, the daughter of Phillip J. and Emma E. (Zweibohmer) Ettledorf. Irene was a 1947 graduate of Calmar High School in Iowa. She married Dennis C. Bodensteiner on June 28, 1949 in Our Lady of the Seven Dolors Catholic Church. He predeceased her on December 25, 1958. She later married Frank L. Roethler on December 11, 1961 in Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. He predeceased her on December 19, 1993.
Irene was employed for 25 years by State Farm Insurance, Rockton, IL and Home Care Pharmacy for 19 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church and was very active within the church Prayer Chain.
Irene was a proud loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, playing cards and bingo.
Survivors include her children, Rosanne (Robert) Southwood of Rockford, IL, Judy (Richard) Neeve of Lake Villa, IL, Lois (Mike) Swanson and Dan (Julie) Roethler both of Beloit, WI; grandchildren, Tom (Cori) Southwood, Mark Southwood, Sara (Neil) Lesinski, Kyle Neeve, Ken (Leslie) Swanson, Brian (Amber) Swanson, Alex (Ruthie) Roethler, and Bradley Roethler; nine great grandchildren; step children, Kathy (Tim) Griffin, Cindy (Ron) Wood, Rick Roethler, Jim (Kathy) Roethler, Karen (Gus) Langas, and Susan (Jerry) Hosch; sisters, Kay Sloan of Dubuque, IA, Helen (Frank) Bockman of Hoffman Estates, IL, and JoAnn Luzum of Calmar, IA; sistersin-law, Evelyn (Lawrence) Elsbernd of Calmar, IA and Marion Heying of West Union, IA; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; sister, Rosemary Bockman and grandchild, Andrew Roethler.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kenneth Gold, Beloit Regional Hospice and special friend, Shirley Larsen for the care given to Irene during her illness.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 13, 2019 in Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 2222 Shopiere Rd., Beloit, WI, with Fr. Michael Resop officiating. Inurnment will be in Floral Lawn Cemetery. Visitation of remembrance will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Friday in the church. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Rd., Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church or Beloit Regional Hospice.
