James "Jim" Edward Degan Sr., 94, of Beloit, WI, died on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 in his home.
He was born on May 19, 1925 in Oshkosh, WI, the son of Ernest Pettit and Florence Degan. Jim was raised on the west side of Beloit and attended Ruble School until the 8th grade. He joined the Navy in 1943-1946 and he did see a lot of the World. He served in the US Navy Armed Guard in the European; Mediterranean, African, and Middle East; and Pacific-Asian Theatres until the end of WWII. After the war, Jim married Eldora W. Keech in Richland Center, WI on July 20, 1947.
They built their home on West Street starting in 1951 and raised 4 children while enjoying Scouts, gardening, fishing, camping, hunting and spending time with family and grandchildren. He was employed by Ideal Concrete as a truck driver retiring in 1989. Jim and Eldora were married 60 years prior to the death of Eldora in November 2007.
Survivors include; children, Karen Norvell of Prairie Grove, AR, Donald Degan of Maysville, NC, Patricia (Darin Purdy) Degan, Juda, WI and James (Mary) Degan Jr., Beloit, WI; grandchildren, Brian (Jacqui) Degan, Mark (Dana) Degan, Chris (Brittany) Pollentier, Shawn Pollentier, Jamie Degan and Alexandra Degan; great grandchildren, Porter and Joseph Degan, Levi and Bryson Pollentier, and Olivia and Finley Degan; sisters, Marilyn and Marlene.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Eldora and son-in-law, John Norvell.
A funeral service for Jim's family will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Rd., Beloit, WI. Burial will be in Floral Lawn Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in his name to Beloit Regional Hospice.
