Leonard "Lenny" D. Schoonover, 72, of Clinton, WI, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2019 in his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on December 17, 1946 in Beloit, WI, the son of Leon and Doris (Thompson) Schoonover. Lenny was a 1965 graduate of Clinton High School where he excelled in athletics and metal classes. He spent four years in the U.S. Air Force where he served overseas duty in Korea until 1969. Lenny married Denise M. Weidmer on June 12, 1971 in Clinton, WI. She predeceased him on October 31, 2016.
Lenny began work at Custom Welding in high school at the age of 14. After his time in the service he started working for Colt Industries (Fairbanks Morse) of Beloit, WI where he was a special materials welder. He left for a short time to work for Kirk Douglas Construction and returned to Fairbanks, retiring in 2012. Lenny loved to hunt, work in his shop and spend time with family and friends. He had a heart of gold and loved being a grandfather while taking care of his grand dogs, Tessa and Piper. Also known as "Papa", he was a very creative thinker and builder around his home.
Survivors include his two children, Jamie (Paula) Schoonover and Stacy (Brian) Beals both of Clinton, WI; grandchildren, Brady Beals and Carly Beals; sisters, Patricia Hackett of Sun Prairie, WI and Karen Hardt of Clinton, WI.
He was predeceased his mother and step father, LaVere Larsen and twin brother, Larry D. Schoonover.
A celebration of life will be from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Boxcars, 108 Allen St., Clinton, WI. Inurnment for Lenny and Denise will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2019 in Clinton Cemetery for family and friends.
