Lyle R. Masear, 94, of Roscoe, IL, died Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at North Pointe Terrace Assisted Living, Roscoe, IL.

He was born on his father's farm in Manchester Township, Boone County, IL on January 9, 1924, the son of Claude J. and Mabel I. (Arnold) Masear. Lyle was a 1942 graduate of Hononegah High School. He enlisted March 10, 1944 in the U.S. Army, serving in General George S. Patton's Fourth Armored Division in Eastern France. Lyle was wounded in action, while on a patrol inside the German Lines on December 2, 1944. After spending 3 months in the hospital in Northern England, Lyle was assigned to 115 General Hospital which moved from England to Kassel, Germany as Army of occupation for 1 year. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army on May 26, 1946 as Corporal.

Lyle attended Pasadena City Jr. College in Pasadena, CA, University of Wisconsin Madison, and graduated with a B.S. Degree from the University of California at Davis in Agricultural Education on June 1954. He married Maria Eugenia Castro Garcia of San Salvador, El Salvador, CA, on September 2, 1953.

Lyle was formerly employed by the State of California Bureau of Fruit and Vegetable Standardization Service, and Corning and freezing plants in California before moving to El Salvador with his family. Lyle spent 15 years farming coffee and tropical fruits. Also, while in El Salvador he taught science at the American High School for 2 years. In addition to this, he set up a canning pilot plant and taught Food Processing at the University of El Salvador for 1 year the first of its kind in that country. In 1978, he moved to Beloit, WI, and worked at Frito-Lay for 10 years. Lyle later married Marian C. Niedermeier on September 29, 1984. She predeceased him on December 26, 2015. He was a life member of the National and Mid-American Fourth Armored Division Association. Lyle was also a member of the Disabled Veterans Association and Military order of the Purple Heart.

Survivors include his three wonderful daughters, Marilyn (Richard) Graham of NC, Carolyn Masear of El Salvador, CA, and Doris (Jeff) Krause of NY; step son, Jerry (Dorothy) Niedermeier; grandchildren, great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; sister, Arlene Masear of Beloit, WI; brother, Clyde Masear of PA; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Elinor Masear and Lois Greene, brother Carl B. Masear and his first wife, Maria Eugenia Masear.

A Funeral service for Lyle will be at 1:45 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2019 in Heritage Baptist Church, 12848 Willowbrook Road, Roscoe, IL, with Pastor Dave Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawn Cemetery, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service Friday in the church. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.
