Josephine Bradley transitioned to be with God on Friday, November 30, 2018 at Beloit Memorial Hospital, Beloit, WI.
She was born on May 23, 1932, to John Percy Cobb and Jessie Cobb (Martin) at home, in Pontotoc, MS. She was one of 9 children born to this couple.
A lifelong Christian, Josephine accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Cherry Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Ecru, MS. She attended Ecru High School as a youth.
Josephine married Floyd A. Bradley on November 17, 1951 in Pontotoc, MS. They moved from Mississippi, living a short time with Floyd's sister, Christine Harrell, in S. Beloit, IL and finally to Beloit, WI. She had several aunts/an uncle, cousins and friends who also moved from Pontotoc, Tupelo and Ecru, MS for work in Beloit.
Josephine was an active long time member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for over 6o years. She is a former member of the Senior Choir and served on various church committees throughout her lifetime. Josephine made sure her children also attended church regularly as youth and believed education was important.
A determined and smart women, Josephine helped to support her family by working at the Admiral Corporation, Dana Corporation, General Motors and McCleary, Inc. She retired from McCleary, Inc in the mid 1990's, but drove people to medical appointments and other places around Beloit for several years.
A favorite pastime of Josephine was shopping! She really loved high heel shoes, suits, jewelry and dressing well. She owned many church hats as well as casual hats. She always attended services at Emmanuel or other events well dressed! Josephine had favorite television shows dating back to "The Edge of Night" and "As the World Turns". Her current favorite television shows were Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune as well as many of the judge shows. If her favorite television show was on, it was best not to call her until it was over.
As a loving and kind person, Josephine cared greatly for her family and did whatever she could to help her family and others.
Josephine was pre-deceased by her parents, husband, brothers, Clinton Walker, John Percy Cobb, Jr; Rufus Cobb, Jamie Cobb; and sisters Fannie Roberson and Louise Dillard.
Josephine is survived by her daughter and son, Stephanie Lynn Bradley Wilson, Madison, WI; Floyd Bradley, Jr. Beloit, WI; and sisters Sarah Coleman, Lena Bradley and Catherine Doze.
She was was proud of her five grandchildren Monisha Richard (Kendrick), Monique Bradley, Floyd Anthony Bradley, III; Crystal Peterson and Jasmine Bradley Wilson and the five great grandchildren Kenaija Richard, Kendrick Richard, Jr, Daezha Bradley-Carroll, Melaqai Bradley-Scott, and Paul Bradley-McAtee. She also leaves to cherish her memory many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
A visitation will take place on Friday, December 7, 2018, 6 pm to 8 pm, at Foster Funeral Home, 1650 E. Huebbe Parkway, Beloit. On Saturday, December 8, 2018, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1151 E. Grand Ave, a second visitation will occur from 10 am until 11 am with the Homegoing Service starting at 11 am. Minister Rodney Hayes will officiate the service. Burial will occur immediately after the Homegoing Service at Floral Lawns Cemetery, 835 Dearborn Ave., South Beloit, IL, with the repass at Emmanuel Baptist Church fellowship hall.
Josephine Bradley's family is thankful and appreciative of the care provided by the ICU staff at Beloit Hospital, and At-Home Health Care Services. The family is also grateful for the support provided to Josephine in helping her to attend worship services by the Emmanuel Baptist Church family, especially Deacon Willard Snow, Mrs. Novella Johnson, Ms. Vida Bevineau, and Mrs. Brett Collins.
