Rockford man found guilty of murder

ROCKFORD - A Rockford man was found guilty Monday of first degree murder following a nearly week-long jury trial in Winnebago County Circuit Court.

Terrell D. Ellis, 38, was found guilty of killing Monica Box, 35, on April 28, 2016. He was tried before Judge Randy Wilt.

Box was beaten badly and she died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head, according to court documents. Ellis and Box were in a dating relationship at the time of the offense. He was identified as the main suspect in the case.

Ellis is scheduled to be back in court at 1:30 p.m. on May 31.
