CLINTON - The Clinton Police Department, with assistance from other area agencies, executed two search warrants Monday to collect evidence in a case associated with a Feb. 18 shooting in the village.
The search warrants were served at 727 Milwaukee St. at about 9 a.m. That address was the site of a shooting on Feb. 18 when an 18-year-old woman was injured. Jesus S. Rangel, 18, was arrested on a charge of recklessly endangering safety in that incident and he remains in custody at the Rock County Jail.
Clinton Police Chief David Hooker said the search warrants were served to collect evidence. He said the shooting appeared to be drug related and there may be other suspects identified once the evidence is processed.
Johnny Espinoza, 20, was arrested on the scene Monday and faces possible charges of possession of marijuana and a probation violation.
Hooker said a lot of the evidence is electronic and the police department will need assistance in processing it.
Evidence is to be sent to the Rock County District Attorney's Office for consideration, he said.
As a precaution, because there was a shooting at the address previously, the Clinton Police Department received assistance on the scene from the Rock County Sheriff's Office SWAT team, the Town of Turtle Police Department, Clinton Fire Department/EMS, Town of Beloit Fire Department/EMS and MD-1.
