Ceremonies planned in honor of veterans

There are many upcoming Veteran's Day programs in the coming weeks to celebrate heroes.

Grinnell Hall Senior Center will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at 10 a.m. on Friday. Larry Butler, a boats man at Pearl Harbor for seven years will share his story. In addition John Solis from Veteran Services or Rock County and Mark Finnegan of VetsRoll will be at the center to share information on each organization's services. The Grinnell Goldenaires will share their talents with patriotic songs. Lunch will be served at 11:45 a.m. for those who register. There is limited seating. Culver's of Beloit will be having a Veteran's Day Program from 2 - 3 p.m. on Monday, according to Assistant Manager Josh Lock. The ceremony will include music, speakers as well as flags given to veterans. Speakers will include Beloit City Manager Lori Curtis Luther, Beloit Police Chief David Zibolski, State Rep. Amy Loudenbeck, R-Clinton, and Lea Culver, one of the co-founders of the Culver's franchise.

On Monday, Nov. 11, the American Legion Post 48 in Beloit is planning a gun salute and "Taps" at 11:11 a.m. at 236 St. Lawrence Ave.

Powers Elementary School has a second grade veterans program. On Friday, it has a dress rehearsal at school at 10 a.m. Veterans from Riverside Terrace are invited to attend along with the rest of the school. On Monday, Powers will have the second grade program at 5:30 p.m. at the Beloit Turner High School/Middle School auditorium.

American Legion Post 332, in Rockton and Veterans Of Foreign Wars Roscoe Post 2955 will be collaborating on several activities. They will present colors at the Veterans 5K Run & Walk in Rockford at 8 a.m. on Saturday at 1288 Elmwood Ave. On Monday they will participate in service at Hononegah High School in Rockton at 9 a.m. where they are dedicating a flagpole and plaque for Hononegah veterans. At 9:30 a.m. veterans will speak at Roscoe Middle School, and at 10:30 a.m. veterans will present colors at Kinnikinnick School for a veterans day program. At 1:30 p.m. veterans will present colors at Stone Creek Middle School for a veterans day program.

The Parkview Schools and Orfordville American Legion Post 209 will be holding a Veterans Day assembly at the Parkview High School Gymnasium at 10:30 a.m. on Monday. Everyone is welcome and the public is encouraged to attend.

The School District of Beloit will host a breakfast from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 25 at the new Kolak Education Center, 1500 Fourth St. There will be a short program by students to honor all veterans.
