BELOIT - Beloit will be hosting 18 travel journalists this week who will be touring the city and will be introduced to many of its attractions.

Visit Beloit, the Wisconsin Department of Tourism and the Geiger and Associates public relations firm are hosting the travel journalists in Beloit Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The group also will spend a few days in Janesville this week.

Stacey Bodnar, Visit Beloit director of marketing and public relations, said the group includes editors and freelance writers who write stories for Forbes, the Washington Post and other publications. Tom Wilmer of National Public Radio (NPR) also will be with the group. He has a travel show on NPR and a travel podcast.

While in Beloit, the group will have a full schedule. They will take part in some adventurous activities at Skydive the Rock, as well as take part in a kayaking trip. They will be able to get a taste of local culture with tours of the museums at Beloit College - the Logan Museum of Anthropology and the Wright Museum of Art. The group will be able to sate their appetites at local dining establishments such as Clara Bo and Gatsby Wine Bar and the Velvet Buffalo. A visit to G5 Brewing also is on the agenda.

Downtown Beloit Association Executive Director Shauna El Amin will lead the group on a tour of downtown Beloit and explain the revitalization of the downtown area, and point out some of its more interesting features. The group also may take in a visit at the Ironworks Golf Lab and get a few tips from a golf pro.

On Friday night, the group will be treated to some music and riverfront scenery as they visit Music at Harry's Place in Riverside Park.

The hotel rooms, meals and other expenses of the group are paid for by Visit Beloit while travel expenses for the group are paid for by the Wisconsin Department of Tourism.

Bodnar said Geiger and Associates puts together three travel journalist tours a year in Wisconsin and this is their first for Rock County.
