BELOIT - The School District of Beloit is getting closer to a naming a new superintendent.
The Board of Education will be interviewing a total of six superintendent candidates today and Wednesday in closed session meetings set for 5 p.m.
A total of 47 candidates completed the application process. Board members saw videos of the top 10 candidates selected by its search firm, and the board selected six to interview. The six candidates will be coming to Beloit for the in-person interviews this week.
"The board is looking forward to meeting these candidates and learning more about each one," said board president Pam Charles. "At the completion of Wednesday's interview, we hope to select finalists to bring back for a second interview."
When the finalists come for their next interviews, they will receive tours of the schools and the city.
The goal is to have a candidate selected by the beginning of March.
Interim Superintendent Donald Childs will remain through July and the board would like a new superintendent to begin work by July 1, Charles said.
