ROCKFORD - Republican Lori Gummow will be the next Winnebago County Clerk after besting Democrat Paul Gorski on Tuesday.
Gummow won with 30,405 votes, or about 61 percent, while Gorski collected 19,669 votes, or about 39 percent, according to unofficial election results.
Gummow, 54, of Loves Park, previously said she was looking for her next challenge after serving as executive director for Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful for 30 years before retiring at the end of 2016.
Tiana McCall was named interim Winnebago County Clerk in January, when Winnebago County Clerk Margie Mullins retired. Mullins served as Winnebago County Clerk for 11 years. The clerk's office is to be consolidated with the recorder of deeds office in Winnebago County.
