ROCKFORD - The Rock River Valley Chapter of Wild Ones will hold its annual wildflower sale from 3-7 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday at 4601 Paulson Road (Paladen Pkwy.), Caledonia, Illinois. A large selection of native woodland, wetland and prairie wildflowers, ferns, sedges, grasses and shrubs are available for sale to the public.
Native plants are adapted to the soils and climate of northern Illinois and are hosts to hundreds of species of native birds, bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects. They help absorb storm water, and don't need fertilizers and pesticides. There are species suitable for sunny, shady, wet and dry conditions.
A list of the native plants that are for sale and directions to the sale site are on the chapter's website, www.wildonesrrvc.org or by calling 815-969-7435.
