The Rock County Conservationists will host a Yahara River Canoe/Kayak Trip from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on April 27. This is a free, public event. Participants will meet at the parking lot of Murwin County Park on County Highway H in the village of Fulton, Wisconsin. Reservations must be made by calling Dave Bendlin at 608-868-3824 before April 26.
The section of the Yahara river which will be explored is wide and mostly shallow with a sand and gravel bottom and is usually easy to paddle. It is a good river for anyone who wants to try paddling a canoe or kayak on moving water for the first time.
Birds likely to be seen include cranes, herons, kingfisher, ducks and geese, as well as cormorants, osprey or even a bald eagle.
The trip should take about 3 hours with a break along the way. Those attending should bring their own canoe or kayak. A small number of free kayaks will be available.
