Here's a suggestion for the naming of the new Beloit school administrative building.
There is an old saying: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." The following paragraph was written as the lead introduction for the Beloit Daily News yearbook of 1993. I think after reading this the name of the new building should remain "The Kolak Education Centre."
"The late George Kolak, in building a multicultural environment as principal of Beloit's Merrill School, liked to point towards the building's adopted motto: We are family. Principal Kolak and his Merrill family were not the first to use the slogan, but they extended it in a particularly appropriate way. To the community's children, they said, 'You can make a difference. You can point the way. You can serve as examples to our community, that our diversity can be our strength.' The youngsters took the message to heart. Merrill has been an exemplary school, a place where differences are viewed as strengths, where children of every color and creed not only get along, but prosper educationally and socially.
"This year, the Beloit Daily News adopts the 'We Are Family' theme for its community yearbook. In doing so we gratefully acknowledge the community contributions of the late Mr. Kolak, and endorse his vision of a Beloit with a heart big enough to accommodate everyone."
