Now in our community we are praised over our diversity in businesses and schools. What many of our community members do not know is, about some minority communties.
Now at the House of Representatives, there is a new Dream and Promise act for immigrants and DACA recipients and for them to be protected here in the US. I am a student in the Beloit School District and am enjoying the diversity we have in our community. On the other hand, we receive little to no information about immmigration since it is "a touchy subject" for citizens to discuss. Why is that?
Many of our community members are a citizen of color. You may not know that someone is struggling federally since they are illegal immigrants. Now that our current president has tried to destroy these programs, now it is the time to make an action. Our Spanish classes at Beloit Memorial High School focus on these types of issues to not only inform us but also to see what we can do as students to help out not only our community but the entire country. That is why these movements have been created like Día Sin Latinos, the May March in Madison and more.
We have the resources to create a change starting here in Beloit. We have meetings and representatives to help with these issues. We need change in Beloit. Talk about these issues because it does not just bring out awareness to our Latino community about our current events but also to our non-Latino communities to be informed and also contribute to change. Our government can make one choice and can cause a tragic impact. I would like to propose to collaborate to create an article to promote awareness towards this issue especially since we are having elections within our communities and having issues in Washington D.C.
