In 1997, Blue Ribbon Commission on Campaign Finance Reform commissioner Jim Klauser proposed direct democracy, as you have here (in a recent Beloit Daily News editorial), and his fellow commissioners chuckled.

When you're ahead of your time, you draw some ridicule.

They would not listen, they did not know how. Perhaps they'll listen now.
