I have been a volunteer at the Beloit Public Library for several years and have noticed a gradual decline of the new materials, and the items on the "new shelves" aren't all that current any longer.
Frankly, it's embarrassing. Homebound patrons may receive only items from the Beloit library, so being a member of a large consortium doesn't help those people at all. Does being a consortium member mean that we should get materials from other libraries instead of bolstering our own collection?
Where are the funds going which are supposed to be earmarked for the purchase of new materials? Isn't ours supposed to be a browsing library? If it is, where are all of the wonderful new things we should be able to hold, look at and check out?
Also, while doing shelf reading and homebound selecting, I am invariably asked for help by patrons because they can't find anyone around. It seems the new roving idea is not working as it was intended.
