'Generous gift honors the lost'

Print Article

On Monday, Nov. 26, folks arrived at Caritas to find cases and cases of canned goods outside our door. This note was attached:

"Donation for Food Pantry. 1,050 cans in honor of the 1,015 US soldiers who perished 75 years ago during the sinking of the British troop transport ship Rohna on November 26, 1943 and the 35 US soldiers who died later of wounds from the sinking. With 1,050 dead servicemen, the sinking of the Rohna is one of the worst single ship losses in US military history."

Normally, we thank our donors in person and send a note of thanks as well. This gift was anonymous. I hope the person or persons who donated the food will read this letter and accept our thanks and gratitude for their generous gift.
