Once again President Trump has chosen to insult and denigrate those who do not bend to his will or hold beliefs or opinions that Trump doesn't share.
He decided to use Twitter to call Congressman Adam Schiff "little Adam Schitt" as the congressman had questioned the constitutionality of Trump's replacement of the attorney general without Senate confirmation. Why was it necessary to change the congressman's name to an offensive sounding word?
Trump was not done disparaging a military hero as he had done with John McCain. Admiral William McRaven had led and planned the mission that resulted in the death of Osama bin Laden. Trump, in an interview, downplayed the accomplishment claiming McRaven was a Clinton and Obama fan and therefore no hero.
President Trump has hurled insults and playground taunts at those who disagree with him. The President relishes in describing his perceived opponents as of low intelligence. He has painted congresswoman Maxine Waters numerous times as a "seriously low IQ " person.
"Dumb" is another word that other presidents have rarely used but it is one of Trump's favorites. He has described TV host Bill Maher as " the dumbest man on television." and repeatedly chided CNN's Don Lemon as dumb. Why do Trump's attacks on women and blacks usually paint them as lacking intelligence?
Trump's language has consequences both within our borders and around the globe. Common decency and human respect have always been the norm of American presidents. Perhaps that is why Admiral McRaven decried Trump's language when he declared "Trump has embarrassed us in the eyes of our children, humiliated us on the world stage and worst of all divided us as a nation."
When will the insults end and dignity return to our Presidency?
