Guest commentary Strong, independent hospital yesterday, today, tomorrow

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Beloit Health System. We're proud to deliver on the vision of the Health System's founders to provide the best care for the community we love. As a strong, independent community hospital, all our decisions are made in the best interest of our patients and their families in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, who also are our friends and neighbors.

As a community hospital, we offer the full spectrum of services - prevention to treatment, birth to end-of-life care. The belief that patients deserve the best care right in their community fuels our growth. Our six clinics, including our new South Beloit location, place family care directly in local neighborhoods. The Beloit Cancer Center leverages our strong relationship with UW Health for the latest cancer treatment protocols and education. The Hendricks Family Heart Hospital provides the most advanced cardiovascular treatments. Our two assisted living communities offer apartments and support services to those who need help with daily living while Beloit Regional Hospice guides patients and families through life's final moments. NorthPointe Surgery Center offers a convenient option for minor surgeries while NorthPointe Health and Wellness serves as the only integrated health and fitness facility in northern Illinois, helping our residents get, and stay, healthy. The NorthPointe Eye Center is now open.

While Beloit Health System's facilities are remarkable, it's the culture of caring that makes our hospital special. The spirit of collaboration and communication among our care teams is felt throughout the experience, leading to industry recognitions in outcomes, quality operations and patient safety. Each of the 20 talented new physicians who joined our team recently is a recognized leader in his/her areas of specialty and a strong cultural fit for our organization. They've chosen to practice medicine the way it should be - with access to the most advanced technology and resources, as well as the ability to provide personal, individualized care for families.

As a critical community anchor, Beloit Health System feels a responsibility to serve the region outside of the clinical setting. The dedication and generosity of our amazing staff were recognized by the Stateline United Way with the prestigious "Live United" Award, and the Greater Beloit Chamber of Commerce awarded us the Large Business of the Year. Our place as a strong, vibrant, active and committed independent hospital is not only a source of pride for our community, but an economic differentiator for our region.

Beloit Health System's strength and stability ensures that we'll continue to be a hallmark of the shared community experience for our region. As we recognize 50 years in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, we invite our patients, families, friends and neighbors to join us for a free, family-friendly community celebration at our main campus on Hart Road in Beloit on Saturday, Aug. 17 from noon until 4 p.m. With tours, games, prizes, food, live entertainment and more, we can't think of a better way to usher in our next 50 years.
