APPLETON, Wis. (AP) The Latest on the firefighter killed, three others injured in Wisconsin transit center shooting (all times local):

2:40 p.m.

Police in Wisconsin say the man who was the subject of a medical emergency call that led to the death of a firefighter also died in the altercation.

Police, fire and medical personnel in Appleton were called Wednesday evening to help a 47-year-old man thought to be having a medical emergency. The man was given help on the bus, then eventually left and started walking toward a nearby library.

Police say that while the man was being attended, "the incident escalated " and shots were fired.

Firefighter Mitch Lundgaard was killed. A female bystander was also hit and is hospitalized in stable condition. A police officer was struck, but was treated and released.

Police say the 47-year-old died at a hospital from his injuries. They didn't immediately provide other details.

12:40 p.m.

A long line of emergency vehicles escorted the body of a firefighter killed in a shooting at a Wisconsin transit center from a medical examiner's office in Milwaukee back to Appleton.

Police on motorcycles led the procession as it made its way north about 120 miles (193 kilometers) on Interstate 41. Firefighters with their truck lights flashing positioned themselves on interstate overpasses as the procession passed by on the way to an Appleton funeral home.

The 14-year veteran of the Appleton Fire Department was killed Wednesday evening at Valley Transit, where a police officer and two others were injured in the shooting. Authorities have so far provided few details about the incident and the conditions of the injured, but planned a news conference for Thursday afternoon.

The firefighter has not been identified.

10:30 a.m.

Gov. Tony Evers is sending his condolences to the family and colleagues of the firefighter killed in a shooting at a Wisconsin transit center.

In a statement released Thursday on Twitter, Evers said he and his wife, Kathy, "send our deepest sympathies to the family, friends (and) colleagues of the firefighter who lost their life last night."

"We stand with our brave first responders ... as they mourn this loss," Evers said.

Officials have not yet identified the firefighter. A police officer was among those injured during the shooting Wednesday evening at Valley Transit in downtown Appleton. Police have not said whether anyone is in custody but said there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Officials say a firefighter responding to a medical emergency has been killed in a shooting in Wisconsin that left three others injured.

Authorities say the shooting happened after police and firefighters responded to a medical emergency around 5:30 p.m. in downtown Appleton. Police say there is no ongoing threat to the community, but didn't say if anyone is in custody.

A procession was held overnight in Milwaukee as the firefighter's body was brought to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office. Firefighters lined the street as emergency vehicles escorted the body.

Appleton is about 120 miles (193 kilometers) north of Milwaukee.
