Verona pulls away from BMHS with strong second half, 40-20

BELOIT - Quarterback Adam Bekx completed 16-of-19 passes for 186 yards and four touchdowns as Verona knocked off stubborn Beloit Memorial, 40-20, at Jacobson Field Friday night.

The Wildcats never trailed, but were tied 14-14 after one quarter. They tacked on a pair of second-quarter scores to lead 27-14 and outscored the Purple Knights 13-6 in the second half.

Keegan Lindell's 1-yard touchown dive put Verona on top with 8:04 left in the first quarter and Chris Garcia booted the extra point.

The Knights countered with a 12-yard touchdown run by Brandon Perry, but failed on the conversion. Verona went back on top when Bekx threw a 15-yard TD strike to Tyler Slawek with 4:25 left in the first quarter. Garcia's PAT made it 14-6.

The Knights tied it went Matthew Wedig scored on a 19-yard TD run and Perry ran for the two-point conversion.

In the second quarter, Bekx tossed a 2-yard TD pass to Haakon Anderson and then hit Tyler Slawek with a 20-yard strike.

The Knights cut it to 27-20 early in the third quarter on a 54-yard run by Perry, but Bekx went back to work, hitting Slawek with a 7-yard TD pass.

In the fourth quarter, Lindell scored on an 11-yard run.

Perry had a huge game for Beloit with 19 carries for 170 yards and two scores. Wedig picked up 97 yards on nine tries. The Knights did not complete a pass.

Anderson finished with seven carries for 114 yards. He also caught five passes for 46 yards.

Verona improved to 6-2 while Beloit slipped to 1-7. The Knights host Janesville Parker (0-8) next Friday.

• BRODHEAD-JUDA 41, BIG FOOT 6: Marco Bueno and Jeffrey Williams both rushed for over 100 yards as the host Cardinals routed the visiting Chiefs in Rock Valley Conference action.

Bueno finished with 21 carries for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Williams ran 19 times for 108 yards and two scores. Quarterback Nick Narramore was just 2-of-5, but for 101 yards. He tossed a 79-yard TD pass to Seth Allen.

Big Foot scored first on a 47-yard run by Logan Eischeid, but Williams answered with a 4-yard TD run. Narramore then hit Allen with a 79-yard strike.

Bueno scored on a pair of 2-yard runs. Narramore scored on a 5-yard run and Williams added his second score on a 2-yarder.

Big Foot's Eischeid was 10-for-21 fir 116 yards. Austin Courier completed four passes for 73 yards. Cole Vance ran 17 times for 77 yards.

• HONONEGAH AT AUBURN: The undefeated Hononegah Indians had their game at Rockford Auburn postponed due to inclement weather. The Indians will play at Knights at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wyeth Stadium.
