Kenneth John King, 80, of South Beloit, Illinois, passed away at the home of his son in Beloit, Wisconsin on Thursday, September 27, 2018.
Ken was born on December 17, 1937 in East Saint Louis, Illinois, the son of William and Adelaide (Flynn) King. He graduated from high school in East Saint Louis, Illinois. Ken enlisted into the United States Marine Corps on October 8, 1959 and was honorably discharged on October 7, 1963. He moved to Beloit, Wisconsin in 1967 and went to work as a lineman for Wisconsin Power & Light, retiring after nearly 30 years of employment.
Ken was an intelligent, opinionated, hardworking and helpful man who loved being outdoors camping and canoeing. He enjoyed working on cars, motorcycles and tinkering with anything mechanical. Ken was a longtime member of the pistol shooting team at the Beloit Rifle Club and was a former Wisconsin and Illinois State Champion. He was also a member of the IBEW Local in Janesville, Wisconsin.
Ken is survived by his son, Kenneth W. (Lori Zierfuss) King of Beloit, Wisconsin; daughter, Karla (David Kohli) King of Madison, Wisconsin; grandsons, Devyn Jay King, and Dylan John King; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dorothy Raso, and Florence Sackett; and brother, William King.
Memorial services are 2:30 p.m., Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Hansen-Gravitt Funeral Home, 424 Prospect Street, Beloit, Wisconsin 53511 followed by military honors by Meade-Allen, VFW Post 2306. Visitation is prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of plant or flowers memorial donations may be given to Beloit Regional Hospice.
