Nov. 20, 1908 (Friday) - Three members of the police force were called to account for arresting boys at the Parker School grounds; the officers have been exonerated by the police and fire commission; a parent claimed the officers exceeded their authority and the commission disagreed. ... The Rev. C. Coon of the Exeter Institute for the Negroes of Springfield, Ill. spoke in Beloit to explain to local youth the full story of a race riot that occurred in Springfield; Rev. Coon said white people should help raise up the black people who are trying to improve their lives; many in the audience said they were strongly impressed. ... Of the total state and county tax levy, which is just under $200,000, Beloit's share will be almost $40,000, just a bit less than Janesville's. ... The Beloit Daily News is offering a year's subscription plus the Metropolitan magazine, for just $5.
Nov. 20, 1958 (Thursday) - Beloiter Archie Ackerman has received the highest adult award for leadership in Boy Scouting, the Silver Beaver award, at the Trailblazer district's annual meeting. ... The first annual meeting of the newly created West Rock Township consolidated school district will be Dec. 1; Ed Hanewall, chairman of the school committee, will preside; former rural districts in the new unit are Afton Hayner, Bass Creek, Washburn and the Rock township part of the Townline district.

Nov. 20, 1998 (Friday) - Stateline United Way workers have celebrated the conclusion of a successful campaign, with 80 percent of the $1.47 million goal already met and Chairman Roger Taylor saying that, all things considered, the drive already is a success. ... Rock County Supervisor Herb Christiansen of Beloit says he isn't giving up on the idea of instituting a half-percent county sales tax, which would raise $10 million annually; the idea has the Beloit city council's support. ... Luke Eddy, a senior at the Rock County Christian School, is the Beloit Rotary Club's student of the week. ... Beloit and area bowlers who have rolled perfect 300 games thus far in the season include Joe Zummo, Roger Ostenson Jr., John Rutledge, Larry Griesman and Boyd Kroll. ... Beloit Memorial has placed Katie Bussan and Sarah Loescher on the All-Big Eight first team in volleyball.
