Another hurdle cleared in Beloit Corp. battle

Former Beloit Corporation workers have taken another step ahead in their case against Joy Global, formerly known as Harnischfeger, and another step closer to seeing the severance pay they're long overdue.
On Wednesday, the court dismissed Joy Global's 2006 appeal, which made the argument that Beloit Corp. workers have no legal case against the company, and asked the court to rule as such. However, the Third Circuit denied that motion, and the case will move forward.
The motion was in regards to a 2000 lawsuit, which includes hundreds of local Beloit Corp. workers who filed wage claims with the Department of Workforce Development after they were laid off from the company in 1999. The workers claim Harnischfeger Industries, now known as Joy Global and parent company to Beloit Corp., interfered with the severance plan created by Beloit Corp. prior the company closing its doors locally.
